This trait is truly a gift when you’re surrounded by positive circumstances. But in chaotic conditions, things can get out of your control very easily. This is when energy protection kicks in.

When you first start manifesting, it might surprise you to recognize so many contradicting beliefs around you. You might feel as if you’re going against the stream.

As an intuitive empath, you can take in their reaction more than needed because you’re naturally open to picking up the emotions of others. 

Effective empath protection keeps your emotions safe and healthy. It's like wearing a shield that helps you feel less overwhelmed by other people's feelings. You’re probably not used to having this protection, so it may take some time to get used to staying unwavering regardless of the immediate circumstances.

Here are a few benefits of protecting your energy: 

  • Minimizes unnecessary drama. Setting energetic boundaries enables you to create a space of emotional balance and harmony. By consciously choosing which energies to engage with, you can reduce the chance of getting entangled in drama and conflicts that don't serve your highest good.

  • Improves intuition. Protecting your energy helps you stay calm and better discern the subtle whispers of your inner voice and trust the guidance it provides. As you consistently protect your energy, you can develop a deeper connection to your intuition and cultivate a sense of self-trust.

  • Improves relationships. Prioritizing your energy and well-being helps you become more selective about the people you allow into your life. This way, you can create a supportive social circle that aligns with your values and aspirations. This newfound sense of belonging cultivate genuine connections where you can freely express yourself and receive support.

It’s easy to get pulled into different directions while taking care of others around you. But your energy protection can go a long way to helping others in a sustainable way. This gives you a deeper sense of satisfaction. Remember, you can share only when your cup is full. So, fill your own cup first.

How to Protect Your Energy as an Intuitive Empath (6 Ways)

You now have a better understanding of why it matters to protect your energy. So let’s dive into several ways you can protect yourself as an intuitive empath. 

1. Removing the empath curse 

Have you ever heard that being an empath can be a curse instead of a gift? When you’re going through a tough time, you might strongly resonate with beliefs like empaths are:

  • Overwhelmed in crowds.

  • Prone to burnout.

  • Easily get drained by negative people.

  • Get anxious or stressed out from all the energy around them.

  • Feeling others' emotions and taking them on as their own.

  • Feeling like they’re carrying others’ burdens on their behalf.

  • Negativity is dragging them down.

But these statements are pretty much one side of a coin.

True power comes from your will and intention. Drop the empath curse (aka the downsides of being an empath), and you’ll experience less of the shadow side. Eventually, you can manifest only the empath gifts. 

What can help remove the negative beliefs is simply not focusing on them. Stop using them as an excuse or justify your current struggle. Every time you catch yourself dwelling on the empath curse, snap out of it and bring your focus back to something you can feel neutral or positive.

Empath protection requires changing your internal narrative. Stop focusing on your character defects. In this way, you can stop feeding the negative self-limiting definition of who you are.

2. Using positive affirmations

By the same token, positive affirmations can be powerful manifestation tools for shifting your mindset. 

The key to empath protection is a mindset. You can build a healthy self-concept and reinforce your empath gifts by repeating positive statements about who you are. 

How to choose affirmations? You can come up with your own or browse the internet or social media for inspiration. There are tons of positive affirmations for empaths. Choosing a few that make you feel good the most can go a long way. 

Keep in mind that you may not need to genuinely take them as your characteristics yet. Something that you genuinely want to believe is enough. 

For example, as I relate to being an intuitive empath, I believe that I have:

  • a heightened sense of intuition and gut instincts

  • clairvoyance, clairaudience, or claircognizance

  • premonition

  • an ability to recognize the needs of animals

I used these traits as my inspiration to craft my own positive affirmations that helped me become a better version of myself. Some examples of affirmations are:

  • My intuition is very accurate.

  • My gut instinct always gives me clarity about anything I want to know.

  • I’m intuitively guided to the path that works best for me.

  • My gifts help me make the right decisions.

There is no right or wrong way to practice positive affirmations. Just pick what you resonate with the most, and repeatedly speak out loud or in silence.

3. Connecting with nature

Did you know that spending time in nature helps empaths ground themselves and find inner peace? Mother Earth provides a calming environment that helps you recharge your energy levels almost effortlessly. When you spend time surrounded by trees, plants, and animals, you will feel more grounded and connected to the earth.

One of my favorite ways to stay grounded these days is to visit a local cafe with a big garden. Even if it’s a small piece of nature, it has a way of slowing us down and bringing us back to our senses. It reminds us that we are part of something bigger than ourselves and that we are not alone in this world.

You can disconnect from the overwhelming emotions of others and focus on your own authentic feelings and thoughts by taking a walk in the park or going for a hike in the woods — a natural way of empath protection.

6 ways to manifest empath protection

4. Setting a healthy boundary

Empaths have a unique ability to connect with others on a deeper level and understand their struggles. The natural compassion they have for others makes them great listeners and problem solvers.

So if you’re an empath, your friends and family members would seek you for advice or emotional support because you can provide them comfort and reassurance in difficult times.

For this reason, it's essential to set clear boundaries with toxic people to protect your energy field. This can be challenging because empaths tend to have a natural inclination toward helping others and putting their needs before their own. However, this behavior can lead to burnout and exhaustion.

Remember that you need to be the one who is responsible for meeting your own emotional needs. Particularly when you feel things deeply, it’s YOUR job to make sure you don’t abandon yourself in dysfunctional relationships. Be a hero who can save yourself.

One effective empath protection strategy for setting boundaries is learning to say "no." Saying no doesn't mean you're being selfish. It means you're prioritizing your well-being. It also means you don’t necessarily owe any explanation. No can be a complete sentence. 

If you find it difficult to communicate assertively and clearly, go back to practicing positive affirmations so you can build up the nerve to say what you truly mean while maintaining respect for the other person.


5. Journaling to clear your mind

Journaling is another powerful tool that empaths can use to protect themselves from emotional exhaustion. Give yourself a safe place to write down your thoughts and feelings. The act of writing allows you to process any unresolved emotions in a healthy way and release any negative energy that you may be holding onto.

Acknowledging your own emotions is the first step to taking care of yourself.  our own emotions but also those of others around us. Journaling provides a safe space where we can express ourselves freely without fear of judgment or criticism. We can write about anything that comes up for us without worrying about what anyone else thinks.

6. Finding what lifts you up

Raising vibration helps you guard yourself against negative energy. It’s impossible to feel good and defensive at the same time. So, feeling good can guarantee empath protection.

Empaths are naturally in tune with their feelings, even if they pick up on others. Nevertheless, feelings serve as important indicators of what resonates with your true self.

In order to raise your vibration, pay attention to how you feel now.

Notice what uplifts your spirits and fills you with excitement and what drains your energy or causes unease. By honoring your emotions and leaning towards what makes you feel good, you can align yourself with higher frequencies and protect your energy.
